Why do you test your products for Endocrine (hormones) Disruption?

Because during puberty or pregnancy, the body is more sensitive to all hormones and to endocrine disrupting chemicals or EDCs (these chemicals mimic the hormones). EDCs that disrupt the oestrogenic cycles are the most worrying ones. These chemicals are known to affect the male fertility, cause ovarian diseases including cancer, can damage the foetus, trigger learning problems for children and many more. They are like long term time bombs

The endocrine disrupting chemicals are a new area of health concern flagged by scientists starting in 2000s. There is little regulation around the world. In the EU, there is a list of ingredients that are known (phthalates, parabens, BPAs, etc) or suspected to be endocrine disruptors, so avoiding these ingredients in skincare formulation is the first step. But it is not only the individual ingredients that can be problematic. Endocrine disruption can also result from non-suspected ingredients through a process of a chemical ‘cocktail effect’ when ingredients get mixed. This is why Skin Diligent screens all ingredients and tests the final products for oestrogenic endocrine disruption

The regulations are way too slow. Finding consensus among lobbying chemical companies, lobbying pharmaceutical companies, other parties with invested interest in the status quo, the various science groups and the government (supposedly the defender of consumer safety) is a very, very long process.

We believe it is rare for skincare or cosmetic brands to test for endocrine disruption, and in fact, we suspect we are one of the first brands to commit to this.

We wanted products that were truly safe for young people, beyond regulatory safety definition.

Why don't you use retinol or benzoyl peroxyde?

We do not want to use ingredients that can sensitise the skin (ingredients that can make the skin react or become allergic) like retinoid (or retinol, tretinoin or other derivatives of vitamin A). Benzoyl peroxide (BP) is an oxidising compound that damages human cells (can be used to bleach fabrics or whiten flour). BP is used in acne treatment because of its antibacterial activity. When BP comes into contact with the skin, it has the ability to start an inflammatory cascade leading to oxidative stress (that can lead to DNA mutation and cell damage).

Skin Diligent's skincare formulations use natural and hypoallergenic ingredients without undesirable side effects.

How long will the Acne-prone Skin kit last?

The Acne-prone Skin kit is formulated to be used in 1 month. The food supplement contains a 30-day supply and the 3-step skincare products should last for at least 4 weeks.

How long do I have to use the Acne-prone Skin kit to see results?

The length of time depends on many factors. The most important is consistency of use. You must use the skincare morning and night and take 3 small food supplements capsules daily.

On average, we estimate 2-4 months of Acne-prone Skin Solution to see results. But it can be more or less depending on individual's health condition and habits.

Changing some habits will improve acne, for example, consuming anti-inflammatory diet (food rich in antioxidants like green vegetables), managing stress levels, cutting down sugar (like high consumption of crisps, sugary biscuits or even plain pasta), improving sleeping patterns and maintaining generally good health.

Why do I need the food supplement?

Acne & Stress food supplement contribute to the normal function of the skin, collagen, immune and nervous systems as well as it regulates the hormonal activity. Acne & Stress reinforces the body's with antioxidants. And the combination of all these targets improve the health and acne.

Food supplements should not be taken as a replacement to a healthy diet.

Are your products vegan?

Our food supplement is vegetarian and vegan. It is also free from GMO, gluten, soy, dairy and bulking agents.

Our skincare is also vegan.

Why do you use parfum?

We chose to add around 0.5% of parfum in our products to offset some of the natural smells of raw ingredients. In our early tests, the natural smell of our product (without the parfum) made it difficult for our testers to be used consistently.

Our parfum doesn't contain any of the 26 EU regulated known allergens (geraniol, limonene, linalool, etc), or other nasties like acetone, benzaldehyde, benzyl acetate, benzyl alcohol, camphor, ethanol, ethyl acetate, methylene chloride as well as phthalates, stearates, and parabens.

Our parfum also passed the endocrine disrupting chemicals test.

Can I use the Acne-prone Skin kit as an adult?

Yes, our kit is formulated for young people but can be safely used by adults, including pregnant and lactating women. All our skincare has been tested for endocrine disruption, is hypoallergnic, non sensitising, non irritating.
